      Hello!

No, at this point we cannot stop global warming. The Earth is going to warm up at least two degrees by 2050 no matter what. It does not sound like much but that two degrees means extreme weather like droughts, floods and hurricanes will happen more often.

What we can stop is the Earth warming any more than two degrees. Any warmer than this and that is when things will really start to get worrying. So how can we stop global warming? The main one is we need to stop burning fossil fuels.

We use fossil fuels for absolutely everything from powering our homes and cars, to making plastics. By burning fossil fuels in engines or to make electricity we release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Some carbon dioxide is a good thing, otherwise we would all freeze, but too much causes the planet to heat up.

This is why scientists from all over the world (including me!) are looking at different ways of making power. Some scientists research things like solar panels and wind turbines, I am researching cars that could run off water. This way we can stop using fossil fuels and save our planet.

      Great question Mrmerks,

That’s a fantastic question! It could be possible to stop global warming getting any worse, however to do this we’d all need to make a lot of differences to our lives and lifestyles, and everyone in the world would need to do this. We can all do lots of little things to help like walk short distances rather than drive, we can unplug chargers for phones laptops and ipads when they are done charging and we can have short showers rather than long ones. In schools and businesses they can switch off lights and computers at night etc.

All of these little things will mean we use less energy and produce less carbon dioxide which is a big contributer to global warming.

Lots of scientists are trying to do research into how we can slow down global warming and make greener fuels (ones which don’t produce as much carbon emissions).

In my research I’m trying to find ways to filter pollutants out of water so they aren’t harmful to the environment.

I hope this helps to answer your question 🙂
