I would actually that most of things I do are actually everyday, as I mostly use water and iron. I do look at the removal of the chemical arsenic, which isn’t usually found in high concentrations here in the UK but is quite common in other areas of the world, like the USA.
I do get to use a lot of really cool equipment! In order to test my samples I have to use really complicated and expensive machines which is really fun and interesting.
My research definitely isn’t an everyday item. I would have to travel quite far north before I found some real sea ice. This makes it really interesting for me because I’m doing research on something that not many people in Britain have ever seen!
A lot of the things I use in my research are everyday items, however its great fun to be able to do research no one else has ever done, and to be the first person to fnd out new things.
Yes, it’s really fun! 🙂 not everyone is trying to get cars to run off water. It’s not only really interesting for me to research, but also to talk to other people about it (just like on I’m a Scientist!).
The other fun bit is using all the expensive bits of equipment in the lab, and definitely getting to use liquid nitrogen. These things are pretty normal for scientists but not for everyone. Showing people how it all works, and also just how liquid nitrogen can freeze almost anything is all part of the job!
