      Hi Hollie,

Thats a great question…..to be honest I have no idea! I love research and working with other people, and I also love telling other people about science so something that combines all of those things would be great! I think I’d like to work for a company rather than a university as that way I can work with other people more and I have more time to do research as at universities you have to spend lots of time trying to get funding. I love doing research where I solve real problems and make things better for people and the environment so something doing that would be a great career. I’d also like to have a family sometime so will probably have a career break for a bit to do that. There are so mny different options that I will try jobs I think I will enjoy and then stay doing the one I love best!

      Hi Hollie,

That’s a tough one…I think my ideal job would be to travel to lots of places in the world and teach people how to build, use and maintain their own water treatment systems. There are so many ways to provide clean water depending on where you are (like sand filtration, or rain water harvesting), but a lot of people sometimes aren’t aware of a solution.

On the other hand I love working in the lab and coming up with new systems that people have never thought of before, so only time will tell really 🙂

      Hi Hollie!

That’s a good question and at the moment I do not have a clue. I am only in the first year of my PhD so I’ve got another three years to decide! I really love what I’m doing though right now, and so I want to stay in research.

I’m probably the opposite of Emily , for now I would rather stay in a University than at a company. Companies do have a lot more money, and when I did research in a company for a year I really enjoyed it. In a University though you are so much more free to research what you think is important. For a company an idea always has to make money. This is definitely important, but sometimes you have to try the really crazy idea to discover something new that could change the world.

Nice question! I’ve done a lot of thinking about this and eventually realised that being an academic (a scientist at a university) is my number 1 plan!

I would want to be an academic is because there are so many different aspects to the job including teaching, researching, writing, travelling, thinking and collaborating with lots of other scientists around the world… so I don’t think I would ever be bored!

Mmmmm, this is a difficult one! When you do research working for a university, it is a loooooong way to get a permanent position, I am experiencing that at the moment.

I did my PhD in Spain which I finished two years ago (omg, look how old I am!), and then move to the UK to do what we called a postdoc. I think, in near future I would like to stay in the UK working in academia. But in the meantime, I would like to move back to my country and help people there on making energy out of water and sun light (there is a way more sun light there, though).
