Hard water is water with high amounts of dissolved calcium and magnesium minerals. There are lots of places around the UK where the drinking water is ‘hard’, and this is controlled by the rocks that the water filters through locally.

There are a few interesting things that you might notice if the water from your tap is hard. The first thing is that your kettle might get lots of white residue in it called limescale, secondly your water might taste a bit different to ‘soft’ water (which doesn’t have many minerals in it), and lastly your bubble bath wont work very well in hard water!
