      Great question Skcyolo761,

I decided to take part in I’m a scientist as when I was a teenager I loved to ask questions and find out why things happen and how things work…..and so now that I know a little bit more I thought it would be a good opportunity to answer questions other people have.

It doesnt really directly benifit me as I’m doing it more to help others than for personal gain, however if I win it means I will have the money to build a really fun exhibit which I can take with other people to science festivals and schools….and that would be great. Its also something which I hope will look good on my CV and so when I finish my PhD it may help me get a different science job.

What made you decide to take part? Are you enjoying having questions answered for you?

      Hi!

I decided to take part because it sounded like a really great idea, and a lot of fun! Having now taken part it is definitely both of those things! It’s not very often that schoolkids get the chance to ask a scientist whatever questions they could possibly imagine. I think it’s a really fun way to learn about science and the weird questions are always the ones we remember the answers to.

I benefit in lots of ways. The main one is that I get lots of practice answering some pretty difficult questions, in quite a short space of time (especially in the live chats)! Hearing what you guys think about science in general is also really interesting. It’s given me lots of different ideas about stuff I could take into schools about science. The other great thing is that I get to see what the other scientists are up to! It’s all really interesting stuff, I mean who knew you could remove poisons from water using rust?!
